I ran the race last year (2010) when it rained the entire time and it seemed to be well organized until the post race party, for that it was massively crowded and you could hardly move around. I don’t drink beer so I wasn’t interested in getting any, but I did see a line for it and they seemed to have plenty of it when I finished. However on the way out of the race I got yelled at by a race volunteer that I had too much food in my arms and should put some down. Excuse me, but she did NOT run 7 miles and has NO idea what I needed after the race. I choose to carry out some of my food because I wanted to eat it slowly and not shove it down my throat. For the HIGH cost of this race, we should be able to eat AS MUCH AS WE WANT and not have anyone tell us otherwise. This race should cost much less and the volunteers should be nicer. AND for Mike there should be more beer.

I’ve ran this race before and every time I never get a beer afterwards. Previous posts have mentioned poor organization on the post race party, and I agree. The price of the race is high enough that you would imagine better organization of the festivities. I don’t think I’ll do it again, the fun is gone.

First time my husband and I have particpated……..we walked the route in a little over 1:48… was tough, but not so bad that we ever wanted to “quit” :)

Not from the “area”, so drove back home later in the day…made for a long day, but overall, the event was well organized, and the “route” participants made it more fun that I would have expected…………back to “train” for another day… J

This is a hard race, but it has the BEST after party, to reward yourself after the race! It is fun to see so many people running and walking in this race.

This is fun race, but do not expect to PR unless you get to the front of the corral.

First time at the BIX this year and it was by far the funnest race I have done yet. Weather was great for the long, hard run…light rain keep everyone cool. The after party was a little disappointing..only lasted about an hour and everyone cleared out. Definatly will be back for next years!

Well organized race. Iowa’s largest. Attracks runners from all over the US and world with many world class runners. An opportunity to run with the best if only for a second! Starting systems is well organized with corrals by ability. Race offers two choices. Seven mile or a short version of two miles. Good for beginners and seasoned runners. Spirited bands pay along the hilly course which encourages runners to do their best. Locals assist runners with water and spray hoses.to help keep cool. You can feel their spirit, you feel the “iowa welcome” This is a good run but one must be mindful of the weather. It can be very hot for this race. Think ahead. Post race party must be organized by a committee, but not runners. No shelter from sun, commercial, salty dry snacks. There is free beer and after the snacks you will need it. Awards are done inside and are held long after the party is over and most runners have departed. Overall the race is a “must do” for Iowa runners and a chance to go “big time”. You do get the feel of a national race and this run is very well supported by the community. After the race there are many activities around the city that are an extra and make for a full day. See you next year!

One of the biggest races in Iowa (if not the biggest). There are so many people throughout the whole race it’s not worth trying to get a good time. I like running it just for the atmosphere and costumes. Great post race party with Beer and Whiteys.
