Where: Gray’s Lake, 1400 Fleur Dr, Des Moines, Iowa 50321

Race Description: The Annual Capital Striders Loop the Lake run marks the unofficial start of the racing season and is a must-do event for runners of all skill levels. The flat and fast 8K race, making 2+ laps around Gray’s Lake near downtown Des Moines. Following the 8K, the Little Lakers race, a race for kids ages 0 – 10 will be held at approximately 9:15am.

Unfortunately, due to the number of participants and the narrow trail, we are no longer able to accommodate walkers in the event.  The 8K course is USTAF certified and is run on a twelve foot wide (in most sections), relatively flat asphalt trail. This race completes just over two loops around the lake.

Little Lakers Run
Children 10 years old and younger will be placed in age groupings and will run distances of 100 – 400 meters along the path. Pre-registration is required prior to 8:45 a.m. on race day. There is no entry fee for the Little Lakers Run. Races begin approximately 9:15am. Free T-shirts for the first 50 registrants. Ribbons for all participants.

Getting There
Gray’s Lake Park is located south of downtown on Fleur Drive. From I-235 take the M.L. King exit and head south 1.5 miles to the park entrance. Parking will be on the west side of Fleur Drive at Waterworks Park.
