Where: Race starts at Lake MacBride Recreation Center (just north of Iowa City, Iowa). Lake MacBride Road off of Mehaffey Bridge Road at the Boat House. (map here)

Distance: 50K and 25K races. The course is a 25K loop (15.5 miles, so 50K runners would do two loops).

Description: A Race To Benefit The Fight Against Lupus.

Some parts of the trails are technical, often with roots and rocks that are hidden . We expect all racers are experienced in handling these conditions!

The course: The course is a ~25K loop (~15.5 miles, so 50K runners would do two loops). Surface: ~1/3 park & county roads, ~1/3 crushed gravel, ~1/3 dirt and grass trails. One little climb up some rocks (may need your hands). One possible water crossing. Be prepared for the possibility of soaked feet!

Race size: Capped at 150 runners.

Weather: It’s Iowa, so your guess is as good as mine! For March 17, average high is 52, average low is 31.

Three Aid Stations and bathrooms: One at start/finish. One at ~4.2 mile. One at about 9.9 miles. Longest distance between aid stations = 5.7 miles. Entry fee guarantees the following: a marked course and the three aid stations.

Time limit: 8 hours (15:30/mile average), after which there is no guaranteed support. Racers who attempt to begin their second lap after 4 hours (noon) are NOT guaranteed ANY support! Race will not be chip timed, but will be timed and there will be age categories with winners and awards.

Packet pickup on race morning. We are also looking for a location for a Friday evening packet pickup.

NOTE: If you can bring a spouse/family or friend(s) to volunteer, please let us know! We would like to put some folks on the course to help direct runners. We would try to accommodate them so that they can watch you start and finish the race. And if they help a couple of hours or so we will try to get them a race shirt! (See email address below to help.)

Registration: Race is Full!

Email Tim (Race Director) for the waiting list.

Website: For more information (course, maps, and video), check out the website here: http://timcsmith.blogspot.com

Contact: If you are interested in this race, in either running it OR helping with it, and would like periodic updates, please send an email to chemsmith1@gmail.com and ask to be added to the Hawkeye 50K/25K updates.

Where: Grand Harbor Resort, Dubuque, Iowa

Route: The runners and skiers are bused (included with registration) in style to their start in Dyersville and finish at the Handlebar in Durango Iowa. Transportation back to the start is also available. The entire race is downhill on the groomed Heritage Trail (Rails to Trails system). The bikers start their doomed journey in Dubuque and travel on public and private snow mobile trails to historic railroad town of Graf where they then travel on Heritage trail to Dyersville the halfway check-in then turn back to Durango for the finish. The bike route is sometimes altered slightly due to trail conditions and weather.

Description: The Triple D Winter race is a winter endurance trail event that traverses Dubuque County Iowa in the dead of winter by bike, ski or foot.

While we have lots of volunteers helping and monitoring the race, all racers are to be SELF supported and are not allowed to receive outside help (other than verbal encouragement). Racers will need to carry any extra clothing, food, hydration, etc. that will allow them to finish the event. Racers are allowed to purchase items along the race at local establishments (nearest are about a mile off the trail). We have a number of Sag Vehicles to retrieve racers if they cannot continue. Racers may receive help from other racers.
