Description: Enjoy this 8 or 4 mile run through the woods along the Des Moines River on the Sycamore Trail!

The 8-mile run starts on NW 66th in Johnston and finishes at the new Polk County office on Euclid in Des Moines (the old Target store).

A bus will be provided from the finish to the start BEFORE the 8-mile race. The bus will leave at 8:30 a.m. for the starting line and, after dropping everyone off, will return to Euclid to unload racer gear bags. Note that you’ll want to put your stuff in a bag that can be left on the ground in December!

Where: Race Start: From Rapid City, South Dakota – take Sheridan Lake Road south about 8 miles and turn right on FS 159 Victoria Lake Road. Proceed about 2 miles on this forest service road. The start/finish will be at the intersection of Victoria Lake Road and First Thunder Road. You will find parking in this area.

Distance: Approximately 8.4 Miles

Description: The Thunder Run is an 8.4 mile run through the Black Hills National Forest located in an area called Victoria Lake approximately 10 miles south of Rapid City in the Black Hills.

The Black Hills Trail Series emphasizes personal achievement and the joy of exercise in the outdoors, in a relaxed and fun setting. We clearly mark the trails, record all finish times, and post the results on our web site. We award points in Men/Women Divisions with two age groups: Open Division, 39 and under; and Masters Division, 40 and older. We keep a running total of the accumulated points and present awards at the end of the series in November. We do not present awards for the winners of each individual race, however, we provide a few prizes for noteworthy runs, and have drawings for door prizes.
