The Muddy Monster cross country run is more than just your ordinary road race!  It is a journey that allows the common athlete to achieve personal goals, enjoy what nature has to offer, take a step back in history, and participate in Halloween fun.

Muddy Monster offers a 15K run (9.3 miles), 5K run/walk (3.1 miles), Monster Mile (17 & under), and a Lil’ Monster fun run.  The loop course, which takes place almost entirely on grass and trails, starts and finishes in scenic Seminole Valley Park and runs through Ushers Ferry Historic Village.  Check out the site for complete details including the race time line.

Participants are also encouraged to have some fun and race in their favorite Halloween costume! Every participant in costume will be eligible for costume awards.

Swim: Wave starts begin at 7:30 a.m. sharp. The 1.5K course is a triangular shaped swim from Pleasant Creek State Park swimming beach. Buoys will be to the right. Boats and safety personnel will be on the lake at all times. Time-Trial swim start format. Elite athletes and teams will start in waves beginning at 7:30 a.m. All other athletes will start in a Time-Trial format (one person will start every 3 seconds by crossing over the chip timing mat on the beach before entering the water).

Bike: Our challenging 40K bike course will take you through Iowa’s scenic countryside. The course will be marked with arrows, caution signs and mile markers every 5 miles. Course marshals will be located throughout the route. Major intersections will have law enforcement personnel. The course is open to vehicular traffic. There will be two bottle exchange stations along the course. The approximate locations are at mile 7 and 17.  Water in sports caps bottles will be available.

Run: The 10K run is an out and back course on a county road with small rolling hills. Little protection from the sun is provided on this course and it is open to vehicular traffic. Aid stations will be located at each mile along the course. Water, HEED (lemon lime flavor), Hammer Gel (mixed flavors), ice, fruit, cookies and pretzels will be available. Hammer Nutrition is the official energy drink and gel provider for the Pigman.

Description: We welcome people of all ages and abilities to celebrate this tradition with us as part of the annual Sweet Corn Festival weekend.

The 5K race course begins at the school, east on 42nd, north on police-secured Ushers Ferry Road, up North River Blvd to Aegon, through the parking lot, and cruises down 42nd to finish back at the school.

The 10K is ~2 loops of this, with the 2nd loop starting at the corner of 42nd and Usher’s Ferry Rd.
