How to Take Beautiful Race Photos

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

One of the most exciting things about racing is capturing the moment and sharing with friends and family. Especially, if it’s your first 5k or a new PR! Unfortunately, we sometimes end up with, uhh, not so flattering photos that should be destroyed rather than posted on facebook.
This race report is all about making you look good. Below are some tips on how to best capture that perfect photo to show off after your next race.
  • Pick out your running clothes with style in mind. Clothes that match are a good choice, but also keep in mind, you will probably sweat. There’s nothing worse than sweat stain highlights in your finishing photo.
  • If there are professional photographers on the course, make sure your bib is visible. Many times, they will post the photos based on your bib number and you’ll want to be able to find yours.
  • As soon as you spot the photographer make sure that you are actually “running”. It may help to  weave out of the crowd of other runners, look towards the camera, and wave if you’d like. BONUS: kick a slow motion sprint towards the photographer to ensure a bad-ass look.
  • If the race doesn’t have professionals, have your friends and family who come to support bring a camera. Plan ahead and agree on meeting spots throughout the course.
  • Last, but not least, SMILE!

Note: Submit your race photo and be apart of Running Wall! Send your favorite race photo and we’ll upload it to the site. Instant Rock Star status!

Vanessa is the newest winner of the official Running Wall shirt! Rich won his own shirt in April! Both were automatically entered into the Race Review contest, just for reviewing a race on Running Wall.

Don’t worry if you don’t have a shirt, we are “running” the contest through the end of 2011. That means you have many more races to review and chances to win your own official Running Wall shirt.

Check out the shirt and happiness it brings here: http://www.runningwall.com/review-a-race-win-a-shirt
