Where: Coralville Dam to Downtown Iowa City, 151 S. Dodge St (College Green Park), Iowa City, IA 52240
Distance: 10k
Description: Given that the race is point to point, buses will be available to transport runners to the start of the race. Buses depart between 6:30 and 7:15 AM. You may park your vehicle on the street or in the parking ramp two blocks east of College Green park. Of course, if you have arrangements to get back out to the dam after the run (or if you want to have twice the fun and run back) then you can leave your car at the dam. Parking will be available in the spillway near the west end of the dam.
The course begins at the West end of the Coralville Dam. Runners will head East off of the Dam and then down Prairie Du Chein Road. The course is rolling and scenic and finishes at College Green Park which is located just East of downtown Iowa City.

Love the route and the post race. Planning for transporting gear from start to the post race should be included in future years. I wasn’t the only one standing around freezing at the start line. Thanks for all your hard work!
Agreed – I’ve been here and to the icdollarsforscholars.org site several times since the run ans so far not results! I’d really like to know how I did!
Where do we find results for the 2012 race?
Ugh, the hills. I hate hills. But this event was VERY well run – great organization and volunteers. Very nice tech shirts. Thank you to everyone! I drove in from about an hour away to participate and was more than pleased with the event. Other than the hills, the only negative I would share is that I was surprised that there were not hardly any high school kids running – since this is a Dollars for Scholars event, I assumed there would be more support from the kids.
This continues to be a well organized race. Easy packet pick-up, fast and hilly course, great volunteers all along the course, great post race amenities. If you like smaller, friendly running events this is a good one to participate in.
Hills hills and more hills… I’ll do this race again. Good post race food & drink, very well organized .Good idea having the packet pick up at Scheels. See you next year
Wittsle– we moved the date this year to avoid being in direct competition with the Cedar Rapids Run the Flood race. We understood it was the same date as the Drake Relays, but were hopeful we’d lose less runners this way, vs losing runners to the popular CR run. As a result, we ended up with almost 400 runners compared to around 200-250 in prior years. While nothing is official yet, I would expect the board to approve this to be our consistent date going forward.
Thanks all for the updates on the inaccurate timers… that is something we definitely will be looking into for next year’s race to ensure we get it right. As well as posting the results more quickly.
Appreciate the feedback on post-race festivities and communication avenues as well. We’re looking to build and expand so these are areas we will pay closer attention to next year. Keep the suggestions coming!
Corey
My son & I were both disappointed that the weekend was moved up this year, as we had other obligations for end of April weekend. Had originally planned for both of us to run again. Why the change in weekend?
Thanks!
It was a great run, thanks for hosting it. I look forward to doing this next year.
Organization was decent. I like the shirt, not just a regular t-shirt but a quality athlete’s shirt. I want to thank all of the volunteers as well.
I had a stopwatch with me and noticed that each mile marker they read the times and they were all 6 seconds slow…. however one of them was 9 minutes fast. This is not a complaint, but thought I’d point it out if you’re looking for things to improve on.
Thanks for having water at the end. I also think this feedback page is great, it’s nice to read others comments and learn that there are pictures of us out there. It’s nice to share that.
My only suggestion/request would be to have everything on one page or one page have links to everything. My fiancee was looking for the results and didn’t see them posted until I told her there was another site and maybe they’re on there and there they were. Might be less confusing to have everything centralized.
Again, thanks for hosting this.
Great race! I thought the course was challenging, but very satisfying. Post race was nice at the park. Plenty of room for the kids to be entertained while they waited for the award ceremony. The start on the dam was pretty cool too, especially with almost 400 runners. I saw another poster had some hicups with packet pick-up, but it must have been an isolated incident, as I didn’t have any problems, and everyone on race day that I talked to had nothing but praise for the organizers. Oh well, it happens right.
Also, I’d agree with the poster that mentioned door-prizes for next year. Thanks for putting on this race!
The picture permissions have been reset for public viewing. Sorry for the confusion, please try again.
The link to the running pictures hosted on Picasa requires a gmail account login. Even if you have a gmail account and login you are still denied access to the pictures. Someone needs to change the permissions on the Picasa album to allow anonymous viewing.
Thanks!
Note that a link on the website (www.icdollarsforscholars.org) has been added for the results for 2011 (and previous years) as well as a link to over 300 pictures of the race. More pictures and video will be added (as time permits).
Corey,
I appreciate the reply and I apologize for my grumpiness.
I don’t need the shirt but thanks for the offer. I’d like to reiterate that I loved the route, it’s very challenging (good) and the rural areas were nice. The biggest irk was the chip timing wasn’t used properly and since that’s what you paid for I’d look for another timer next year.
The results could also be posted to the website: http://sites.google.com/site/icdollarsforscholarsorg/Home/dam_to_downtown
Thanks to you and the other volunteers!
Excellent race. Beautiful sceneary. Weather cooperated too. Thank you to all volunteers for their excellent work.
P.S.– I’ve submitted the race results to this site for posting. My email address is corey-phillips@hotmail.com if anyone would like to contact me directly.
Running Fool– My name is Corey Phillips and I’m treasurer for Dollars for Scholars– if there’s anything I can do to make it up to you, please let me know. There was a cut-off date for guaranteed shirts- however, let me know what size of shirt you would like, and I’ll mail it to you.
I do want to point out that all the help was from volunteers… no one (besides the chip timer) was paid for their services. All profits go to Dollars for Scholars.
I’m very sorry for your experience. We certainly did learn some things from having a bigger crowd this year and have already changed processes to ensure packet pickup goes more smoothly. We appreciate the feedback!
GREAT RACE!!! Loved the course…including the hills

One more thing; the guy doing the time at mile 4 was off the actual race time by 6 minutes (too fast). Felt sorry for anyone that wasn’t wearing a watch and thought their pace was way off. I guess they got a surprise at the end when their time was better than they thought.
Hate to be hating on this race because it’s for a good cause, however, a good chunk of the fee likely goes to people who are supposed to organize and manage the race. I suggest using someone else next year.
Love the course but that’s the only good thing about this race.
Packet pick up was a mess because guy was late to Scheels. Paid $25 but didn’t even get a shirt. Chip timing not used at the start of race so why have chips? Worst of all, can’t find the times posted anywhere.
Most poorly organized race I have been in.
Great course! Loved the times at each mile marker and the finish line party was great. Regretted not being able to stay for the awards ceremony. btw, where are the results posted? Can find 2009 and 2010, but not 2011! Strange.
Very scenic run. Defintiely NOT for those afraid of hills.
Great job organizing!
It was my first 10k and I thought it was really well organized. Even for a newbie! Thank you for a great support staff. The hills really challenged me but it was a great race to feel my strengths and learn what I should be doing more of in training for races later this summer. Very Fun!
Great course, great race!
Where are the results posted?
What a fun race! I’m sure glad the weather decided to cooperate and the rain stayed away! The wind wasn’t too bad, and the hills were a challenge, but were something to add excitement to the race (right?!?). We enjoyed the course, the race organization (including friendly volunteers) was awesome, and all for a good price that went to a great cause. The only suggestion that might add some fun to the end of the day would be to add some door prizes.
Thanks for a fun morning run!
Well organized. Great route. Friendly crowd. See you again next year!!
Wow! …hills, hills, and more hills!
Great Course! Loved the fact that the incline/declines were pretty equal.
Weather was cool and breezy to start but good temps for running! Great view starting on the Dam, nice course with challenging hills but peaceful route. Good organization, good fund raising cause, traffic control was excellent, good reception at finish line. Right amount of food for this type of event. Great sponsor support.
Next year please change the route so we don’t have to run down Kimball. It hurt my hip and my friend’s hip badly. Down Dodge street would be better in my opinion.
It was perfect weather for the race; cool and misting. Very pretty and hilly route. Traffic control was good and turns were well marked. There were plenty of water stops and volunteers. The postrace party in the park was fun and the food was good. All for a great cause. Thanks! See you next year!
