This chip race is the best organized race I have done this year. Despite heavy rain, delays and lightning interuptions this race was well run. Running in the rain was a most interesting experience. Newcomers found that cotton t-shirts triple in weight in heavy rain and restrict movement. The unusual distance throws people a little. This race can be fast because it is mostly flat and it’s run on a boulevard allowing the out and back runners to be unrestricted by traffic. This year the age brackets were changed to five year instead of ten and a 65 and above was added. Hopefully the directors will add three more age brackets – this sport keeps drawing more older runners. The awards were picture frames with age brackets printed on them and all runners can get the finishing race photo with the time clock pictured on them from the Telegraph-Herald. In addition the T-H printed a race tabloid a day after the race with complete results and race photos. What a great step up for a local race. This race is a must do – bring your rain running gear and a pair of dry shoes!
This is a great short, flat, fun race that is great for beginners and seasons veterans alike.
