Where: 5th and Clark (Downtown) Ames, Iowa 50010
Description: This is a 5K and 10K, both run at night. Option to do both races (15K).
The 5K is run at 7:30 and the 10K is run at 8:30. The races are followed by a large all you can eat pasta feed with a live band. This is a great time for mingling with fellow runners and maybe talking about experiences over a beer or two. T-Shirts are great and the music soothing. Come and have some fun.
Course: The race course is relatively flat with one short bump. It runs around downtown and out towards the Iowa State campus and past one of the city’s premier parks. The course is on pavement and very fast.

By far the best running event of the season. On my drive home (which is 200 miles) all I could think of was my review of last year – same this year. If you can only do one race this summer, this is hands down the BEST. Well organized, good runs and as advertised – the best party. Pasta, bread sticks and all the draft beer you want while listening to great bands. Folk, it doesnt get better than this. Thanks Capt Midnight and all your helpers.
Great turnout! I tried the 15K option or ran both the 5K at 7:30 and then the 10K at 8:30. It was the same price for any race or both, so I figured why not? The course starts downtown and loops out. The 10K is two laps. I was surprised how many spectators cam out to cheer which made it very fun. The post race festivities is amazing considering the low entry fee. Spaghettis, fruit, yogurt, sports drinks and tons of beer. This one is definitely on my calendar for next year.
Overall, fantastic race!
This is a great race for a very reasonable price. Everything was well organized and the post race party was great. One minor setback was that they ran out of spagetti, and I think this was because they had more people register than before and they did have other food besides spagetti. Many elite runners were there since they had cash prizes. This is a great race and I would recommend it.
If you love to run and you love a good party this race is a double MUST. Choose a 5K or 10K OR do BOTH!! Remember to hydrate. This is usually a hot run – both tempature and competiton! HOWEVER, the best is the party afterwards. All you desire pasta, bread, ice cream and BEER plus a band. Run, eat and have a beer but most of all – have one of the BEST times of the summer running season. If you can only do one race this summer – this is the one to do. I have driven 400 miles every year for five year to do this one. See you there!!! (Oh , thanks to the hard working people who organize and work this race.)
It’s an excellent race – well organized, well supported and well run. Course is flat with a couple of rolling hills to make things interesting. The party afterwards is OUTSTANDING. Run hard and enjoy the spoils!
An excellent summer race… well organized, fast courses, and a great after race party. Don’t miss this one!
Great race. Scenic course takes you through downtown Ames then past Brrokside park. A summer family tradition of fitness and fun. Big party following race. Fun for all ages.
This race offers a pretty hot night of racing followed by a big post race party. This race is very conducive
to mingling with other runners. We have beer and pasta along with a Blues Band from Chicago.
It is a great time.
