This race is awesome, I’ve done it both years that it was organized. The volunteers and staff were very encouraging., and made this a great event. It is nice to see a longer distance race in Cedar Rapids. I hope the tradition continues. . .this race on my “MUST DO” list!!
LOVED this race! It was a well supported, well run half marathon and a great value. The course had small rolling hills and the mid section was very scenic once we got out of town. The aid station was out of GUs by the time the slower runners (me) got there, but I always bring my own so it didn’t cause me any problems. The people at the aid stations were friendly and encouraging, unlike some other races I’ve done. Hubby loved the free beer at the finish. Long story short, I’m already recommending this to friends for next year!
This was a nice race however I wished there had been more support along the course. There was supposed to be a GU-station at some point along the course but I did not see it if it was there and I know others had similar complaints about the support along the course. Next year I will definitely bring my own GU or something to refuel on. The course was challenging and contained many more hills than I was prepared for yet it was a fun course to run. Not to mention that the route was very scenic and beautiful. The post-race activities were nice; they had a band and some snacks.
This was a very nice well run race.
Definitely will do this race again! It was a great route with awesome post race. Enjoyed it.
Really enjoyed the run. Scenery and route were very pleasant and the crowd and volunteers were helpful and encouraging. Appreciated the good effort of all involved. A good amount of shorter hills provided a nice challenge. Really like running on the Sac & Fox trail. I have run races before where the finish line had little or many people who only clapped in their runner – but at this finish we were greeted with loud clapping and lots of congratulations. It was great. The post race food was good and appreciated. Liked the Nuun electrolyte drink. I would definitely run it again. I can understand the comment about the train. It would have been VERY difficult for me to restart after having to wait for a train. This was my first half marathon ever and the longest distance I have ever run – a medal of some sort would have been appreciated! I think it would increase entrance cost but maybe it could be optional and each runner could collect at the end at a registration table? Hopefully they will consider doing this next time. Also liked the T-shirt opt out.
I thought it was a great event! Kudos to the organizers for planning such a great race! There were plenty of porta-potties, the water stops were well-placed, the volunteers were awesome, the kolaches were a nice touch, and of course, the free beer was much appreciated. I will definitely do this one again. (And I got a PR, too!)
Cedar Rapids has a long distance race again! Great job to all who organized and it turned out very well. Loved the post race w/ MGD 64 and a DJ. I liked the no t-shirt option too. Overall great event, course (train and all), and organized timers. Will definitely do again next year.
PS – also got a PR!
I thought this race was well organized & perfect weather! Loved the t-shirts & very cool tunes, beverages, & food at the finish. It was a PR for me!
I ran most of the race till a train stopped my forward progress. You try to get back into a rythem after standing around for over 2 minutes. The body thought the race was done. So much for a PR. They have many other routes that could skip the railroad tracks. There is nothing so deflating than to run 9 plus miles to be stopped and told to wait for the train. I don’t think I will run it again if the tracks are included.
This was a great half marathon that was well organized. The turnout was pretty good for the first one they ever had. There were enough porta-potties along the route as well as water stops. The course had some hills in it, but I didn’t think any of them were too bad. Course was scenic and a good portion of it was in on the trail which made it fun. After race party included gatorade, water, fresh fruit, kolaches, music and beer. I’m sure this race will continue to grow.
