Description: Lace up those sneakers and get off the couch because its time for the 11th annual Pi Sigma Epsilon 5k charity run/walk! This year PSE is hosting the event in honor of the Magical Mix Kids, a local charity benefiting Cedar Valley kids persevering through a terminal or chronic illness. The course will wind through the beautiful campus of the University of Northern Iowa. Refuel after the race with some water, bagels, and a short awards ceremony. Most of the runners in the race are the traditional college age. The age group designations are very broad 18 and under, 19-40, and 41 and up. Medals or ribbons are not given to anyone below first place in each age category. The raffle afterward has decent stuff and everyone is eligible.
Cost wise, it’s only $15! It’s not too crowded and in the Iowa style, everyone is welcoming and laid back. It doesn’t matter if you finish first or last, they’ll cheer you on (but don’t expect a parade..there weren’t THAT many spectators). The course is mostly on the UNI campus but can be a bit hilly. When we go through the finish chute, they seemed to have difficulty taking our tags in order as we somehow got broken into two lines. I could barely hear the guy using the megaphone making announcements. They had an ample supply of bagels, bananas, and water.
