Description: Get ready for the “Marching for Maria House” and “Trotting for Teresa Shelter”. This event is a fun way for individuals of all ages, families and teams to get some exercise and raise money for Maria House and Teresa Shelter. In 2009 almost 400 people participated in this 5K run / walk and raised about $17,000 for homeless women and children. The goal of this year’s event is to raise over $20,000 to provide transitional housing and emergency shelter to homeless women and children.
“Marching for Maria House” will once again hold an indoor walk on the comfortable, indoor track at Clarke College Kehl Center. In addition to the walk, family activities will be held on the gym floor. These include kids games (fish pond, temporary tattoo, face painting, balloons), team pictures and more. LT Amusements will have a bounce house and inflatable slide. A coloring contest for Kindergarten through fifth grade students will be available prior to the event at the Dubuque Community Schools and Maria House. Big Apple Bagel will also load a table with its famous bagels, muffins and coffee to keep participants going through the morning.
Not only will the walk and family activities be held, but a 5K outdoor race called “Trotting for Teresa Shelter”. The Mississippi Valley Running Association will officiate the race. The course will be mapped in the Clarke College area and registration will be inside the Clarke College Kehl Center. Awards will be given in each division.
